 On June 17, 2006, I had the awesome honor and privilege to perform LIVE with the legendary 9 time grammy award winning artist, Andraé Crouch & twin sister, Sandra Crouch.
It was a hot summer day at Martin Luther King Park in Long Beach, CA. Hundreds of people gathered in the park to hear Andraé Crouch perform new songs from his brand new CD entitled, "Mighty Wind."
As soon as the car pulled up to the parking area, people gathered around to greet the gospel legend with hand shakes, hugs and kisses on his cheek. I was just amazed and happy to be there with him. We were escorted into a gymnasium at the park where the rest of Andraé's musicians and singers were all gathered there, eating, laughing and just greeting each other like one big and close family. Unbelieveable! so many great singers in their own right. Everyone there to sing together with the man himself, Pastor Andraé Crouch.
There was a quick 45 minute rehearsal before the concert. Wow! Ricky Grundy on piano, the Andraé Crouch singers surrounding the piano up on stage, and the New Christ Memorial Church Choir, about 25 strong, seated on the gymnasium floor below the stage. I sat in with the choir. In all we were about 45 singers, sounding like 145. Andraé sat besides Ricky Grundy with a huge smile on his face. He was smack in the middle of some of America's top choice singers, all of whom were singing HIS music! He is truly Blessed, and so was I to be a part of this choir of great singers.
Concert Time! I could not believe it. Finally, after knowing Andraé Crouch literally my entire life, I was now about to walk up on stage with Andraé as one of his singers in the choir. Today was not just a normal day for me. It was not just a gig in the park, No! This was the answer to my many many prayers for so many years. This was an honor and I was considered "bad" enough to jam with these gospel singers and band.
