Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Al Campos is a singer, trombone player, songwriter, producer and arranger. He performs in the genres of Soul, Jazz, Funk & Salsa, with deep roots in Gospel music.

He was born and raised in Highland Park, Los Angeles, CA.
Being the son of his father, a preacher & a gospel singing mother, he was brought up in church.
Singing in his first church gospel choir at age 11, Al continues to compose & sing gospel music to this day.
His life long friend and adopted uncle, Andraé Crouch as well as his twin sister, Sandra Crouch have been most responsible for Al’s knowledge and inspiration within the Gospel genre. “I owe about 100% of what I know and love of this music to Andraé and Sandra. I’ve been extremely Blessed and lucky to have them in my life as a best friend, spiritual and musical teacher.”
Al Campos was learning to play in bands in Los Angeles during what he calls, “the last of the great musical eras.”
The late 1960′s and early 70′s, while listening to Little Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Bill Withers, Billy Paul, Smokie Robinson & the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson 5, Diana Ross & the Supremes, WAR, the early Tower of Power, Chicago, Kool & the Gang, and the list just goes on and on.
In 1982 Al moved up to San Francisco where he lived in North Beach & worked at the world famous, Ashkenazie & Co. Jade & Oriental Art gallery located in the Fairmont Hotel. After 5 years of working as an art dealer, Al’s own art form, music composition & performance called upon him to once and for all return to playing music. So, in 1987 Al resigned his very exclusive position at the art gallelry and began writing and recording music again. He later founded his own recording & production company, still existing today, positiveSOUL Productions.
In 1988 he met and married his Danish wife who was visiting San Francisco from Copenhagen.
Two years later in April of 1990, after the 1989 earthquake, they both moved from San Francisco to Copenhagen, Denmark.
Since moving to Copenhagen in 1990, Al has worked with some of USA’s biggest Gospel artists as they made their way performing through Scandinavia. Artists such as his own uncle, 9 time Grammy award winner, Andraé Crouch, Edwin Hawkins (Mr. Oh Happy Day himself), Richard Smallwood, Patrick Henderson, Ricky Grundy, Gerald Smith, Gerome Bell, & others.
Al also worked as Choir Director & vocalist for a Danish Gospel choir, “KEFAS,” for 5 years. He produced the choirs first CD, “Blessed Be The Rock.”

Guest appearances:
Another very exciting project Al has been part of has been working with his very good friend & world class saxophonist/producer/writer, Bobby Ricketts. It has been a huge honor for Al to have worked with Bobby’s great band, Dan Rasmussen, Troels Skovgaard & Hans Fagt. And if that were not enough, it’s been a life changing experience to have shared the stage not only with Bobby but also Mr. Mo Pleasure (Earth Wind, Fire, Janet Jackson & the “This is it” Michael Jackson band, as well as the incredible Delmar Brown (Miles Davis, Sting, Ray Charles).
Look for Bobby Ricketts upcoming 2010 album release where Al is once again a featured guest vocalist.
